Description

Reproduction of Judith Leyster's candlelit scene of a man holding out coins to a young woman in a pale bonnet who is absorbed in her needlework.

A woman in a white cap and collar sits with her head bent over her sewing, a swathe of pale blue-grey fabric across her lap. Behind her a man in a dark fur-trimmed cap and coat leans in and holds out several coins, unnoticed, while a small covered lamp glows on the table beside him, its flame the only other light in the scene. The palette is deep brown and almost monochrome, so the woman's white cap and collar glow softly in the dim room. The mood is quiet and tense, set between her innocence and his silent proposition. The original is a painting; this is a reproduction of it.

Judith Leyster built the work around isolated candlelight and strong contrast. The style is a domestic night scene, told with gesture and shadow rather than words.

FAQ

Is this an original artwork?
No. This is a modern fine art reproduction printed on 200 gsm matte fine art paper, not an original or hand-painted work.

What size should I choose?
30x40 cm suits a shelf, a desk or a gallery wall of several small pieces. 50x70 cm is the usual choice for a single print above a bed, a sofa or a console table. 60x90 cm works as a standalone focal point on a large empty wall.

Does the print come framed?
Only if you choose a frame or canvas in the options, where they ship to your country; both arrive ready to hang. An unframed print ships without a frame, and every size matches a standard frame format, so it fits off-the-shelf frames.

How is my order printed?
Each print is made to order at the partner facility closest to you, which keeps delivery times short and shipping distances low. The product page shows where your print is made: locally in your country, or in the closest country with a partner facility.

Can I return it?
Yes. You can return a print within 14 days of delivery. A damaged or defective print is replaced free of charge if you tell us within 30 days of receiving it. Returns go to our address in Poland, and the return shipping is at your cost; a damaged or defective print does not need to be sent back.
