Mt Fuji, snowy temples, mountain lakes and moonlit rivers: Japanese shin hanga woodblock art, reproduced from the prints of Hiroshi Yoshida and Hasui Kawase.
Description
Japanese landscapes in the shin hanga style: Mt Fuji after snow, temples in winter, mountain lakes, harbours at dawn and rivers under the moon. This collection at Leonarto.studio brings together reproductions of Japanese woodblock prints by two landscape artists of the movement, Hiroshi Yoshida and Hasui Kawase.
Shin hanga, the early 20th-century revival of Japanese woodblock printing, joined traditional carving and printing to a Western-trained eye for light, weather and season. Hiroshi Yoshida (1876–1950) painted the Japanese Alps, Mt Fuji and his journeys abroad in soft, luminous colour. Hasui Kawase (1883–1957), later named a Living National Treasure of Japan, is known for snow at shrines, rain on village streets and moonlit water. Every print is made to order on matte poster paper and ships unframed, in sizes that fit standard frames.
The originals are woodblock prints; these are reproductions of them. Their calm palettes of blue, grey and soft gold suit modern and traditional interiors alike, and several views hang well together as a quiet series of Japanese wall art.
