Description

Reproduction of William Merritt Chase's genre painting of a woman in a blue dress seen from behind at an upright piano. Dusty blues and greys keep it quiet.

A woman sits with her back to the viewer at an upright piano, sheet music open before her. Her dark hair is swept into a bun above a soft blue dress cinched at the waist, one hand resting on the piano keys and the other reaching toward the sheet music propped above them. The piano's dark, glossy case fills the lower half of the image, and behind her a pale patterned curtain and a plain wall suggest a quiet room. The palette is restrained, dusty blues and warm neutral greys. Because her face is never shown, the painting reads as a study of mood and posture, calm, private and absorbed in music. The original is a painting; this is a reproduction of it.

William Merritt Chase was an American Impressionist painter and an influential teacher, known for plein air landscapes as well as portraits and still life.

FAQ

Is this an original artwork?
No. This is a modern fine art reproduction printed on 200 gsm matte fine art paper, not an original or hand-painted work.

What size should I choose?
30x40 cm suits a shelf, a desk or a gallery wall of several small pieces. 50x70 cm is the usual choice for a single print above a bed, a sofa or a console table. 60x90 cm works as a standalone focal point on a large empty wall.

Does the print come framed?
Only if you choose a frame or canvas in the options, where they ship to your country; both arrive ready to hang. An unframed print ships without a frame, and every size matches a standard frame format, so it fits off-the-shelf frames.

How is my order printed?
Each print is made to order at the partner facility closest to you, which keeps delivery times short and shipping distances low. The product page shows where your print is made: locally in your country, or in the closest country with a partner facility.

Can I return it?
Yes. You can return a print within 14 days of delivery. A damaged or defective print is replaced free of charge if you tell us within 30 days of receiving it. Returns go to our address in Poland, and the return shipping is at your cost; a damaged or defective print does not need to be sent back.
