Description

Reproduction of Henry Thomas Alken's equestrian portrait of a gentleman in a top hat riding a chestnut horse at a walk past a distant farmstead, in warm light.

A gentleman sits very upright on a chestnut horse, dressed in a long dark grey coat, white trousers and a tall black top hat, with a riding crop in one hand and the reins in the other. The horse steps forward with a raised foreleg. Behind them a cluster of small farm buildings and scattered trees sits along a low horizon. Warm golden and pale ochre tones fill the sunlit landscape, with the horse's reddish brown coat and flowing dark mane and tail as the strongest colour. The mood is light, airy and unhurried, with no deep shadow. The original is an equestrian portrait painting; this is a reproduction of it.

Henry Thomas Alken's handling is smooth and linear, more drawing-like than painterly, and the horse is slim and elegant, more a fine hack than a working hunter.

FAQ

Is this an original artwork?
No. This is a modern fine art reproduction printed on 200 gsm matte fine art paper, not an original or hand-painted work.

What size should I choose?
30x40 cm suits a shelf, a desk or a gallery wall of several small pieces. 50x70 cm is the usual choice for a single print above a bed, a sofa or a console table. 60x90 cm works as a standalone focal point on a large empty wall.

Does the print come framed?
Only if you choose a frame or canvas in the options, where they ship to your country; both arrive ready to hang. An unframed print ships without a frame, and every size matches a standard frame format, so it fits off-the-shelf frames.

How is my order printed?
Each print is made to order at the partner facility closest to you, which keeps delivery times short and shipping distances low. The product page shows where your print is made: locally in your country, or in the closest country with a partner facility.

Can I return it?
Yes. You can return a print within 14 days of delivery. A damaged or defective print is replaced free of charge if you tell us within 30 days of receiving it. Returns go to our address in Poland, and the return shipping is at your cost; a damaged or defective print does not need to be sent back.
