Description

Reproduction of Winslow Homer's dark storm waves breaking over jagged rocks beneath a heavy grey sky. Thick, choppy brushwork gives a dramatic, brooding mood.

Dark grey-green waves roll in from the left in tight, heavy bands, breaking into white foam against a cluster of black rocks at the centre of the scene. Above them the dense grey sky is streaked to suggest wind-driven cloud and spray thrown up by a distant gust, and a tiny dark shape, likely a low-flying bird, cuts across the sky along the Maine coast. The palette is narrow and almost monochrome: greys, greenish blacks and white foam, with thick, choppy brushwork adding movement and weight. The mood is tense and dramatic, the feeling of an oncoming storm, with the small bird the only mark that breaks the heaviness. The original is a painting; this is a reproduction of it.

Winslow Homer (1836–1910) was an American painter known for scenes of the sea and of rural and coastal life, from quiet fishing trips to the rocky Maine shore.

FAQ

Is this an original artwork?
No. This is a modern fine art reproduction printed on 200 gsm matte fine art paper, not an original or hand-painted work.

What size should I choose?
30x40 cm suits a shelf, a desk or a gallery wall of several small pieces. 50x70 cm is the usual choice for a single print above a bed, a sofa or a console table. 60x90 cm works as a standalone focal point on a large empty wall.

Does the print come framed?
Only if you choose a frame or canvas in the options, where they ship to your country; both arrive ready to hang. An unframed print ships without a frame, and every size matches a standard frame format, so it fits off-the-shelf frames.

How is my order printed?
Each print is made to order at the partner facility closest to you, which keeps delivery times short and shipping distances low. The product page shows where your print is made: locally in your country, or in the closest country with a partner facility.

Can I return it?
Yes. You can return a print within 14 days of delivery. A damaged or defective print is replaced free of charge if you tell us within 30 days of receiving it. Returns go to our address in Poland, and the return shipping is at your cost; a damaged or defective print does not need to be sent back.
