Vintage Cats ⁽¹⁶⁾

Almost every picture here is about cats. Henriëtte Ronner Knip painted a ginger mother guarding three kittens in an ivy-hung doorway and a black and white kitten batting at dominoes on a polished table. Arthur Heyer returned again and again to white long-haired cats: one in a sunlit meadow and one among dark foliage, each watching butterflies, three gathered as if in conversation, a kitten reaching for a red ladybird, and kittens on a bench meeting a tan and white puppy, the only dog in the collection.

Mother cats and litters recur. Arthur Alfred Brunel de Neuville painted a calico family around an enamel plate and a ginger and white mother sharing spilled milk with her kittens, Julius Adam the Elder a mother cat in garden greenery, and Louis Eugène Lambert a family beside a heavy red curtain. Léon Huber's kittens play in a wicker hamper with pink roses, Daniel Merlin's four gather on a red rug, Adolf Von Becker's grey striped kitten sleeps while a rat creeps behind it, Antoine Jean Bail's girl dangles a feather above a white cat, and Simone Del Tintore's kitten peeks out of a dark still life of mushrooms and fruit.

What is a good gift for a cat lover? A picture of a cat that looks like theirs: a white long-haired cat, a ginger mother, a black and white kitten or a grey striped one. This vintage cat art suits a kitchen, a hallway or a reading corner. The originals are paintings; these are reproductions of them. Every print is made to order on 200 gsm fine art paper and ships unframed, in sizes that fit standard frames.
